Collectors with an appreciation for American numismatic history got a treat in 2019 when the U.S. Mint released three Lincoln Cents with the West Point's "W" mint mark along side the Mint's annual Proof and Mint set releases in 2019. These were the first Lincoln Cents ever to bear the mark. The novelty became even more attractive when an error was discovered with the proofs. This Obverse Struck Thru Mint Error is one of those coins and is sure to be prized by the collector who gets it for years to come.

Striking President Abraham Lincoln Design by Victor D. Brenner
Obverse: The coin's obverse bears Victor D. Brenner's right-side portrait of President Abraham Lincoln. The national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," arches over the fallen leader. Flanking his effigy are the inscriptions "LIBERTY" and "2013."
Reverse: On the reverse is Lyndall Bass's union shield design. The motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is inscribed on the top of the shield, while a ribbon with an inscription of the coin's face value, "ONE CENT," unfurls in front of it. The name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," spreads throughout the top half of the rim.

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) provided the grading information for this coin on a label that bears an image of President Abraham Lincoln. NGC graded the coin Proof 69, which means that it appears perfect to the naked eye. The grading company also certified this piece First Day of Issue, a designation only given to coins that were submitted for grading through an exclusive process.
