Gene Tenace is a former MLB player and coach who was six World Series winning teams in career. Primarily a catcher and 1st baseman, Gene played from 1969 to 1983 for the Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres, St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates. His career was probably most notable for his time as one of the stars of the 1970's Oakland A's who won three consecutive World Series Championships from 1972 to 1974. The 1972 World Series may have been the high point of Gene's career when he had home runs in his first two at bats in the World Series Game #1. Gene was also the hero of Games #4 and #5, as well as the pivotal Game #7 where he drove two runs in during the A's 3-2 Series game winner. For the World Series, Gene had 4 home runs and 9 RBI's and he was named the World Series MVP. He went on to be the starting 1st baseman for the A's during their next two World Series Championship seasons. He played with the A's until 1977 when he moved to the San Diego Padres where he for the next four seasons. Gene won another World Series ring with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1982 and he retired after the 1983 season. Gene joined the Toronto Blue Jays as a coach in the 1990's and he was named interim Manager during the 1991 season when Manager Cito Gaston was out ill for an extended period. Gene picked up two more World Series rings, this time as a coach, when the Blue Jays won the World Series in 1992 and 1993. He remained coaching in MLB through 2009. Gene will always be remembered best for his time with the Swingin' A's of the 1970's and his 1972 World Series heroics. This helmet would be a great gift for anyone who loves the A's or baseball of the 1970's.
