For many years the Moravian Star has been a favorite decoration appropriate for the Advent & Christmas Seasons.
The first having been made in the Moravian settlement at Niesky, Germany about 1850. Today the stars shine in homes, schools and churches
in many parts of the world.
The Moravian star is a reminder of the star that led the 3 Wise men from their home in the distant east to Bethlehem,
where they presented gifts to the Christ Child.
It also symbolizes the Christ Child himself of whom the Old Testament prophecied, "A Star shall come out of Jacob"
The Risen Christ,
likewise, proclaimed himself as “the root and offspring of David,
and the bright and morning star” (Revelation 22:16). It
appropriately displayed from the First Sunday in Advent (the
fourth Sunday before Christmas) until the Festival of Epiphany
(January 6).
