The Federal Specification GGG-P-463c recommends three fixed points to support the surface plate and minimize sag and warp,4 supports on the stand satisfy the certificate tested standard
There are 4 leveling screws both on the top and the bottom that can be adjusted
48 x 72” granite plate sits on 4 leveling screws of 32 x 54" new type stand. The weight of the granite plate is directly transfer onto the leg of the stands thus making it sturdier and can support more weight onto the granite plate. This new type granite plate stand has been sell in USA for 13 years.
Though old type stand has same size with granite plate (for example: 303-9142 shown above picture), granite plate sits on 3 flat contact points on the stands and thus the weight is transferred via this 3 point into the 4 legs onto the floor ground. The length and width of 303-9138 the new type granite plate stand is smaller than the granite plate, but this type is stabler.
Shars Brand surface plates have same accuracy as USA and Japan Brand.
