The 32,336 grt, 697 ft. ss
Bremen
was originally built as
Pasteur
by
Chantiers de l’Atlantique, St. Nazaire for Cie.Sudatlantique, Bordeaux in 1939.
Maiden voyage was cancelled due to the start of WW2.
From 1940 to 1946 she acted as a troop shop for the British Government.
Returned to French Flag in 1946, and continued as a troop transport under management
of Sudatlantique,
operating to the Far East until late 1956 and laid up.
In 1957 she was sold to Norddeutsche Lloyd, Bremen , and entered service on July 9, 1959 as Bremen (5),
after rebuilding by Bremer Vulkan, on the Bremerhaven-New York service.
In September 1970,
Bremen
transferred
to the combined HAPAG-Lloyd fleet.
She lasted only one year, sold to Chandris Lines in December 1971 and renamed
Regina Magna
,
running cruises worldwide only until October 1974, laid up.
Later used as an accommodation ship in Saudi Arabia,
and sank on June 9, 1980 on the way to breakers in Taiwan.
