    Description

Vintage Late 1800's, Horse Drawn, Farm HAY RAKE/DUMP RAKE
This appealing nostalgic decoration that has a beautiful weathered patina, is PERFECT for display on a farm highlighting your country farm motif, a unique yard ornament, a display at a horse farm or a restaurant attention grabber.
Approximately 7 ft wide, this two wheeled implement was pulled by horses/mules/oxen and has curved iron steel 'teeth'. Operated by farmer mounted over the rake on an attached seat(original seat included)
    Approximately 52" diameter steel wheels
The hay rake was used to collect cut hay into 'windrows/piles' to prepare it to be baled or loaded on a wagon. The rake teeth dragged the ground collecting the cut hay . When the teeth were full they were lifted which left the hay in a pile. More hay was added to the 'windrow/pile' with each pass. The hay was then fluffed up & turned so that it would dry. A hay rake made the process of collecting hay from the field's much more efficient. The horse drawn rake could collect eight times as much as one hand raker. This efficiency lead to a larger quantity of feed for cattle
